A water softener, brine tank and under-sink reverse osmosis unit

About us

A water company that works like a plumber, not a sales floor

ClearGen Water tests and installs across Colorado's Front Range. We measure instead of demonstrating, we guarantee a number rather than a tank, and we tell people when the answer is that they don't need us.

Why we exist

The industry earned its reputation. We're doing the opposite.

Ask around about water treatment in Colorado and you'll hear the same three stories: a free in-home test that turned into a two-hour presentation, a demonstration staged to produce a reaction rather than a reading, and a guarantee that turned out to cover the equipment rather than the water.

In June 2025, Colorado Springs Utilities publicly warned residents that "Annual Water Test Notice" mailers landing in their letterboxes were likely a deceptive tactic by companies trying to sell expensive, unnecessary water filtration systems. When the utility has to warn people about your industry, something has gone wrong with it.

So we built the company around the three things that were missing.

How we're different

Three commitments, all of them checkable

Not values on a wall. Things you can check for yourself, before you ever speak to us.

We tell you when the answer is no

We don't sell softeners on Boulder, Longmont or Fort Collins city water, because those cities publish soft water and the hardness number wouldn't change. A company that never says no isn't diagnosing anything.

What your city publishes

We measure, we don't demonstrate

Titration for hardness, a DPD photometer for total chlorine, a calibrated meter for TDS, and a certified laboratory for anything health-related. You keep the written readings whether or not you buy anything.

Our process

We guarantee the water, not the tank

The number the system has to hit goes in writing before we install: under 1 grain per gallon, under 0.1 ppm, 85% TDS reduction. Miss it and you get your money back. That is a different promise from a warranty on a fibreglass tank.

The guarantee

What we won't do

A shorter list than the marketing one, and more useful.

  • We won't sell you a softener in Boulder, Longmont, Fort Collins. Those cities publish soft water. Longmont's own report says a water softener is not recommended there, and we agree. If the taste bothers you, that's a carbon or reverse osmosis question, not a softener one.
  • We won't publish a hardness number we can't source. Front Range filtration sites publish Denver hardness figures that contradict each other. Denver Water publishes no number at all, only a classification: "Denver's water can be classified as soft to moderately hard." So that's what we print, and then we measure at your tap.
  • We won't run a demonstration instead of a test. Precipitation demos, soap-shaking comparisons and colour-change drops produce a reaction, not a measurement.
  • We won't quote a well system before the lab result. Every well is different. The lab tells us what to build and sets the targets we have to hit.

Where we work

Denver, Aurora, Thornton, Westminster, Arvada, Broomfield, Lakewood, Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Centennial, Parker, Castle Rock, Brighton, Longmont, Boulder, Loveland, Fort Collins and Greeley, plus the surrounding Front Range. Hardness and disinfectant vary enormously across that corridor, which is why the honest recommendation genuinely changes with your ZIP code.See every area and what each utility publishes.

Licensing and installation

Installations are carried out by a licensed plumber, and where a city requires a permit for the work, one gets pulled. We install on open-platform metered control valves rather than proprietary ones, so the wear parts are standard and any competent plumber can service your system in year eight — including if that plumber isn't us.

Judge for yourself

Ask us the same twelve questions you'd ask anyone else

We wrote a buyer's checklist that works on every company in this market, including us. Our answers to all twelve are in it, in plain sight.
